Synopsis
One morning, a man named Hiromi wakes up and finds himself transformed into a woman―the movie has a setting similar to Franz Kafka’s ʺThe Metamorphosis.ʺ However, its theme is gender gap. When the man who has lived a depressing life happens to live as a woman, the world looks totally different from the one he has lived in. Being torn between gender and sex, he gropes for a way he should live.
Director Biographies
Juan Antonio Moreno Amador
Born in Talavera la Real (Spain) on 1982. The media work of filmmaker Juan Antonio Moreno explores the struggle for freedom and dignity in conflict situations. Boxing for Freedom is his first feature film. Previously to that he made documentary short films that were awarded and selected in national and international festivals. Among his works we can count Jóvenes y drogas (Youth and Drugs) (Reina Sofía Award in the Social Communication category, 2007), Kosovo, the Last Scar of the Balkans (Bárbara Ansón Award to Social and Cultural Documentaries, 2009), The Children of Mama Wata (selected for the Addis Ababa International Festival, Alcances Festival in Cádiz and Vivisectfest Human Rights Festival in Serbia). Moreno worked at the Spanish Public Television (TVE) and he studied Journalism and International Relations in the Carlos III University and the Complutense University in Madrid, where he currently lectures on documentary film making. He completed his education in the Film and Television School in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. He is a founding member of the Madrid-based production company Making DOC.
Silvia Venegas
Born in Santa Marta de los Barros (Spain) on 1982. Silvia Venegas has directed documentaries that delve into the stories of people who rebel against their fate. Boxing for Freedom is her directorial debut and first feature film. Venegas has directed the short documentary The Children of Mama Wata (selected for the Addis Ababa International Festival, Alcances Festival in Cádiz and Vivisectfest Human Rights Festival in Serbia) and the recently premiered Prescription Art. Venegas studied Journalism in the University of the Balearic Islands, Journalism in the Carlos III University and Audiovisual Media in the Antonio de Nebrija University. She is currently lecturing on documentary filmmaking in the Carlos III University and in the Complutense University of Madrid. She is a founding member of the Asociación Noestamosdepaso, devoted to promoting the documentary genre, as well as of the Madrid-based production company Making DOC.
