Self-Defense tells the stories of three women, who were subjected to constant physical and psychological abuse by their partners. In a rarity, they defy the statistics by killing the men they once loved to survive. These women have to face justice, society and their own judgment.
Susanna Lira is a filmmaker specialized in Human Rights. She is a partner and director in Modo Operante Produções, where she has been working for 15 years coordinating and directing audio-visual projects. In addition to working as a screenwriter and a director, she works as a script consultant and a curator for film festivals. In 2016, the Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Mar Del Plata (MARFICI) paid homage to her by exhibiting seven of her documentaries.
