Chengdu & Chongqing Women’s Month of Culture 2022


This March Chengdu & Chongqing celebrates women’s achievements and draw attention to issues facing women around the globe and across generations with a program of film screenings titled Chengdu & Chongqing International Women’s Month of Culture. The program is organized by the Consulates of Australia and Germany in Chengdu, the Consulates of Canada, the Netherlands, the UK and Italy in Chongqing and curated by Baturu Cultural Festival. The films to be screened include – “Seyran Ates: Sex, Revolution and Islam”, a documentary on Seyran Ates, an activist, a female imam and a lawyer, all her life fighting for diversity and tolerance, “I Am Woman”, a biopic, which tells the story of Helen Reddy, a singer, the author of a song that became a manifest of the second wave of feminism, “50/50: The Documentary”, a documentary offering diverse perspectives on the issue of gender equality at work in Canada, “La pazza gioia” telling stories of freedom on the outskirts of the mainstream culture. A selection of short films “Films for Freedom” will present multiple perspectives of the new generation of Queer directors and “Rainbow Mama” will share stories of Chinese mamas that accept and support their gay and lesbian children.
