Shanghai Women’s Month of Culture 2022

In March 2022, Baturu Festival (CWFF) International Women’s Month of Culture will bring to the attention of audiences in Guangzhou topics and issues around the notion of gender. It is organized by the joint efforts of the Austrian, Australian, Cuban, Finnish, Hungarian, Dutch, and Israelian Consulates in Shanghai, the Cultural Department of the Spanish Consulate in Shanghai / Miguel de Cervantes Library and the Embassy of Colombia in Beijing. The event is curated by Baturu Cultural Festival and supported by the Norwegian and Canadian Consulates in Shanghai and the Office of the Quebec Government in Shanghai.

The festival program includes “Why do my friends cry?” by Magda González Grau reflecting about diversity, friendship, and honesty, “Sonja: The White Swan”, a biographical film about Sonja Henie, a celebrated athlete and the inventor of figure skating, “50/50: The Documentary” presenting a comprehensive overview of the state of gender equality in various industries in Canada, a story of a woman struggling to get a divorce in an Israelian film “Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem”, a Dutch documentary “Soaring Highs And Brutal Lows: The Voices Of Women In Metal” and an Australian biopic “I Am Woman” – both on women using music to speak up for equality, a Colombian film “Jerico, the Infinite Flight of Days” and a Finnish comedy “Ladies of Steel” bringing to light what is often forgotten  – the life of elderly women, a romantic comedy from Hungary “Hab”, a series of shorts produced as a result of the collaboration of six Chinese and Austrian filmmakers. The Month’s program also features a comic art workshop; organized by the Cervantes Library, it aims to popularize the stories of outstanding women from Spanish-speaking countries.
